From Chaos to Calm

We all know that statistics show over 50% of new businesses fail. There is a lot of advice for new entrepreneurs and what they may face on their exciting journey. The one thing missing in my opinion is advice on helping them recognise when they are genuinely in Chaos, not just in the exciting growth and adrenalin bit.

The truth is that for a period of time their life will be in complete chaos and this chaos is often masked by the adrenalin rush and excitement of being part of something successful they have created.

Many people think that chaos is normal in any new start up, and to a degree they are right but these new business leaders need an understanding of where their business is in the growth cycle. If it’s in full growth mode then an “all hands to the pump” culture is practical for a while, but that can’t be sustained. At some point a careful overview has to happen and strategies and structures put into place to allow the business to flourish and grow. I've seen too many businesses collapse in on themselves despite being outwardly successful. The infrastructures didn't support the needs of the growth.

What do I mean by chaos? Well it comes from lack of delegation, lack of building competent teams, lack of internal and external communication and sometimes My thoughts on one of the a belief that the growth will continue forever without the need to become more formalised.

The ability to take a step back and have a non-emotional view of the business is the hardest thing any entrepreneur has to do, it goes against everything in their DNA. But, the business leaders who are able to balance that gene and combine it with sound business sense will be in the 50% of businesses that succeed.

From Chaos to Calm, well in business there is never really any calm, but with vision, strategy and a great team they will feel more in control of their business compared to the first few years.
